What Does ABA Entail at New Beginnings Behavioral Health?

  • ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis. It is a scientific approach to understanding and changing behavior, commonly used in therapeutic settings, especially for individuals with autism and other developmental disorders. ABA uses principles of learning and reinforcement to encourage positive behaviors and reduce problematic ones. BCBA’s begin by learning about the individual’s strengths and challenges. Some key components of ABA include:

*BCBA’s observe behaviors and identify what motivates the individual or triggers certain actions.

*A plan is created that teaches new, helpful behaviors and reduces unhelpful ones.

*Progress is monitored through regular data collection to make sure the plan is working.

*Caregivers often work closely with the therapist to apply strategies at home and in everyday life.

  • At New Beginnings Behavioral Health, LLC, each client’s treatment is supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). Direct 1:1 therapy is provided by a highly qualified Behavior Technician, who holds at least a Bachelor’s degree and has experience working with children with autism.

    Session Structure

    • In-home ABA sessions are typically scheduled in blocks of two to three hours.

    • A parent, legal guardian, or an adult over the age of 18 must be present and available in the home for the duration of the therapy session(s).

    Scheduling Guidelines

    • Families are required to provide at least 24 hours’ notice for all appointment cancellations, except in cases of emergency.

    • For significant scheduling changes, such as extended vacations or adjustments to session times, we request at least two weeks’ notice to maintain consistency in service delivery.

    End-of-Session Procedures

The final 15 minutes of each session are reserved for essential tasks, including:

    • Data collection and note writing.

    • Preparation and organization of materials for the next session.

    • Discussion with the parent about session progress and any updates.

  • Here at New Beginnings Behavioral Health we utilize ABA therapy by using many evidence-based practices, including:

    • Functional Communication Training (FCT)

    • Natural Environment Teaching (NET)

    • Verbal Behavior Therapy (VBT)

    • Natural Environment Teaching (NET)

    • Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)

    • Tender Loving Care (TLC)

  • • Caregivers are required to support therapy implementation by carrying over strategies from sessions into the home and recording data for specific programs as outlined in the client’s treatment plan.

    • If a client or family refuses involvement in the treatment plan, New Beginnings Behavioral Health, LLC will make every effort to provide additional support and guidance. However, as a last resort, services may be suspended or terminated depending on the severity of the lack of engagement.

    • Family participation is essential for maximizing the success of treatment plans and ensuring positive outcomes for our clients.
